I am so glad Natural Med Doc exists! I've been a patient for over a year and half and my hormone issues have improved drastically! Dr. Bennett is wonderful. She listens to your concerns, she makes great recommendations and she is very thorough when going over labs. I've never had that with other doctors before. Despite the fact that insurance does not cover this, the expense is well worth it. I would highly recommend coming here if you do not want to put synthetic hormone meds in your body!
3 months of visits to Natural Med Doc has made good improvements to my health. They have uncovered issues I didn’t even know were important to healing. Already I have felt improved energy and have lost weight. Thank you Dr Richardson for believing in me.
I love Dr. Garcia. She’s amazing. She has got me back on track and makes me feel 100% better. The supplements and check-in are so helpful. Finally, somebody has listened and used science to help me and it’s working.

Scottsdale Health Concerns

Approximately 20% of the world population has been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) at one point in their life. Scottsdale has a population of approximately 258,064; therefore approximately 51,164 individuals experience IBS issues.

In addition to causing unwanted symptoms, IBS and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) can lead to malabsorption which over time can lead to deficiencies of iron and B12, often resulting in anemias.   Another common deficiency is vitamin D. Fat soluble vitamins like vitamin D are not absorbed efficiently in SIBO.  Vitamin D plays an important role in supporting our immune system, our thyroid function, and mood, among many other things.

If you wake up one day asking yourself what happened to my energy, why am I so anxious, why am I gassy, or bloated all the time, it’s time to get checked for SIBO.

Natural Med Doc is the premier IBS and SIBO specialist in Scottsdale. Call us for a free phone consultation with a health advisor today!

What are the benefits of knowing your Small Intestine Bacteria Levels?

Having healthy levels of bacteria in your gut is the key to a happier life.

Given that bacteria is responsible for maintaining your body’s digestive balance (also called Gastrointestinal system), it is crucial to keep your bacteria at a balanced level so that you can maintain a healthy body at all times.

Even healthy bacteria in the wrong location or in large quantities can cause an issue, which is the case in SIBO. The majority of our gut bacteria, should be housed in the large intestine.

That being so, here are the top three benefits of having a healthy digestive tract:

  • Hormone Balance: SIBO or other gut dysfunctions can increase inflammation in the gut, inflammation in the gut can then lead to hormone imbalances. For example, an increase in cortisol, estrogen, 5-alpha-reductase (a hormone that influences testosterone production). Common signs and symptoms of hormone imbalance would be changes in the menstrual cycle, acne, hair loss, and insomnia.
  • Nutrient Absorption: Overgrowth of gut bacteria associated with SIBO and IBS can interfere with optimal digestion leading to a decreased absorption of nutrients. Although all nutrients may be affected, the most significant deficiencies include, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin D, Vitamin K, Vitamin B12, Folate, essential fatty acids, magnesium, and SAM. Poor nutrient absorption not only contributes to unwanted symptoms such as low energy, but can also cause a more serious impact on immune function, premenstrual syndrome symptoms, and disease process.
  • Neurotransmitter Production: If you have SIBO you're likely experiencing anxiety or depression, or a combination of each. There is bi-directional communication between our brain and our gut via the vagus nerve, this is known as the gut-brain axis. That is because our gut has a role in neurotransmitter production. Examples of neurotransmitters produced in the gut are GABA, serotonin, and dopamine.

Most frequent questions and answers

Do you take insurance?

Unfortunately, we do not know any other naturopathic doctors in Arizona that take insurance and deliver the same quality of care we do. We are a cash-based medical practice that goes above and beyond for each patient. This has allowed us to get better results and solve unwanted health symptoms that many patients have been dealing with for decades. Cost varies based on the patient’s needs.

*Please Note: We do accept HSA cards.

How do I treat IBS and SIBO?

IBS is treatable and curable! We utilize in-depth comprehensive panels to assess gut health and develop individualized treatment plans to help resolve your symptoms and heal your digestive tract.

We recommend scheduling a free phone consultation to discuss further. Each individual has different needs and requires a tailored solution to treat IBS and/or SIBO.
